Bryan Hyland and Tom Bourke were welcomed to our Tuam facility as preparations continue for their titanic journey in aid of Daisy Lodge in Cong. This week, we were visited by The Daisy Voyage crew as they take further steps toward one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges: a two-man Atlantic row from La Gomera (Canary Islands) to Antigua (Caribbean) in aid of Cancer Fund for Children’s new Daisy Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo. As sponsors, we were delighted to welcome Bryan, Tom, and several of their supporting group to site. Arriving with their ocean rowing boat, Misneach (Irish for courage or spirit), the pair were greeted by members of the JFC team before taking part in a series of interviews, photos, and video content to share the story behind their remarkable 4,800 km journey. Launching in December 2026, Bryan and Tom will spend approximately 60 days at sea, rowing in four-hour shifts around the clock as they make their way across the Atlantic. The crossing will take place without a support vessel, meaning every piece of equipment, every meal, and every essential supply must be carried on board from the moment they depart. The physical demands are immense. Between them, the rowers will consume around 8,000 calories per day to fuel the crossing. Maintaining their health and fitness remains the priority in the months leading up to departure. Tom is already recovering well after recently breaking his ankle in a mountain biking accident in the Alps, and is expecting to return to full training in the coming weeks. As JFC CEO, John F. Concannon put it, “The charity is the priority with this initiative…It’s a great cause to support people who have sick children. Anything like that, we want to support…I’m sure they’re going to raise a lot of funds.“ While Cancer Fund for Children is the main focus, the visit also highlighted a number of personal connections. Bryan’s father, Christy Hyland, is a Tuam native who grew up just a stone’s throw from our Weir Road facility. He came along for the visit and enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces. Bryan himself spent 23 years working in the marine industry, running a successful mussel farming business before changing careers to the medical industry where he’s now a paramedic with the HSE. During his seafaring days, Bryan became very familiar with JFC Marine’s product range, particularly our mussel floats, the type of marine equipment he had worked with throughout his career. Cancer Fund for Children is a cause that’s close to JFC hearts, as John has a long history supporting the charity. Every cent raised during this challenge goes directly toward Cancer Fund for Children’s new Daisy Lodge in Cong, which is already under construction and is expected to welcome families from May 2027. The organisation was represented on the day by Mairead Geehan, Partnerships & Philanthropy Executive. She shared updates on the progress of the project and spoke about the importance of fundraising initiatives such as The Daisy Voyage. Mairead explained that while significant progress is being made, continued support is essential to help more families access the charity’s services. Currently, Daisy Lodge has the capacity to support just one in seven families. Considering they are working with 55 in Connaught alone, the funds being raised by Bryan and Tom gain even more significance. Mairead praised the challenge being undertaken, “We are very grateful that they’ve chosen us to support. It’s really an honour.“ For JFC, sponsoring Bryan, Tom, and Cancer Fund for Children reflects a shared belief in community, resilience, and making a meaningful difference.
We returned to Fieldays as demand grows for automated calf-feeding solutions in New Zealand. The JFC Agri Team recently returned to Fieldays in Hamilton, New Zealand, exhibiting as part of the Ireland Pavilion at Mystery Creek. This event marked an important opportunity to reconnect with the New Zealand market following the launch of the Evolution Automatic Calf Feeder in the region in 2024. Over four days, the team met with farmers, industry stakeholders, existing customers, and potential distribution partners, with plenty of interest shown in the Evolution range. Representing JFC at the event were Business Development Manager, Mick Keogh, Area Sales Manager, Peter Hilling, and Evolution Service Technician, Adam Waring. Fieldays highlighted the growing appetite for labour saving technology. Globally, farmers are looking for ways to save time, improve feeding consistency, and support strong calf development. We are delighted with the uptake of the Evolution Automatic Calf feeder in New Zealand to date. As the largest agricultural event in the southern hemisphere, Fieldays gave us the opportunity to better understand farmers’ needs in an emerging market and continue those conversations from the last two years with both customers and businesses exploring long-term partnership potential. Alongside the exhibition, the team attended the Irish Agrimachinery and Agritech Solutions Dinner, hosted by Enterprise Ireland. We joined fellow Irish companies active in the region. This was another great opportunity to strengthen industry connections and reflect on the growing presence of Irish agricultural innovation within the New Zealand market. Returning to Feildays for the third consecutive year has really demonstrated the progress made since the Evolution Automatic Calf Feeder was launched and reinforced the opportunities that lie ahead for us in the region. Four days, countless conversations, and plenty of reasons to be excited about the road ahead. Thank you to Enterprise Ireland and everyone who visited the stand during Fieldays 2026. We look forward to seeing you at the next one.

University of Galway student shares his thoughts on an “inspirational” experience. When marketing students picture industry placements, they often imagine content calendars, campaign planning, coffee runs, and time spent editing TikToks behind a desk. For Thomas Kennedy, the experience looked a little different. Since joining JFC in August 2025 through the University of Galway MSc Marketing Practice programme, Thomas has spent the past 37 weeks gaining exposure to every stage of the product journey. Alongside day-to-day responsibilities in social media marketing, SEO, and lead generation, he spent time on farms, attended content shoots, and saw first-hand how products move from design and manufacture to customers around the world. As a market-leading manufacturing company with a focus on innovation, no day at JFC is the same. Our team is involved in every step of a product’s journey, from the first sketch in the R&D lab to decades of follow up support from technical experts. The broader perspective of working with us provides one of the most valuable aspects of the placement for Thomas. “It makes it a lot easier to market a product that you understand fully,” he said in relation to his involvement along various stages of the product lifecycle. With operations spanning Agri, Evolution, Civils, Marine, and Material Handling, we offer interns exposure to a wide range of products, customers, and industries. Spending time with different teams across the business helps students like Thomas bridge the gap between classroom theory and the realities of a modern manufacturing business. “Seeing a company design, develop, and manufacture products all in-house was very inspirational to me,” Thomas reflected. At JFC, we draft, manufacture, and market our goods from Ireland (and the UK). With tight-knit teams, interns get the opportunity to see beyond their own department. R&D, manufacturing, sales, and marketing all happen under one roof, providing valuable insight into how different parts of the business operate and connect. Speaking about the placement, Thomas described the experience as transformative and highlighted the confidence he has gained heading into the next stage of his career: “I believe that I’ve really learned a long about how to operate in a corporate environment and that I’d be able to apply those skills going forward in my career.” This wider view is a core component of working at JFC. People are not separated from the products, customers, or sectors they support. Campaigns may start with a customer need, develop through engineers, draw input from salespeople, and finish with content created for markets at home and overseas. We’re part of a collaborative environment where people are encouraged to get involved, understand the bigger picture, and contribute beyond the boundaries of their own role. If JFC sounds like a place you’d like to take your career to next, get in touch or visit our careers page.

Speaking about the placement, Thomas described the experience as transformative and highlighted the confidence he has gained heading into the next stage of his career:

“I believe that I’ve really learned a long about how to operate in a corporate environment and that I’d be able to apply those skills going forward in my career.”

This wider view is a core component of working at JFC.

Two days of product demonstrations, industry discussions, and valuable customer feedback at Ascot Racecourse Every two years, CleanEx brings the laundry industry together under one roof. Held at the stunning Ascot Racecourse on April 26th and 27th, the event once again showed why it’s one of the sector’s most important gatherings, attracting suppliers, operators, and industry professionals from around the world. We were delighted to be back as Silver Sponsors, exhibiting for the first time since 2022. CleanEx provides a rare opportunity to spend time with the people who use, specify, purchase, and maintain material handling equipment every day. Visitors to the stand had the chance to get a hands-on look at the JFC Trolleys range. On our stand, we displayed an assortment of products, including distribution, sorting, spring-lift, and production trolleys (referred to as cages in the UK market). Seeing products in-person allows customers to properly assess the build quality, features, ergonomics, and durability that are difficult to appreciate from a brochure alone. Through conversations with visitors and exhibitors, we also got great feedback regarding the end use of our products. Input from laundry operators, managers, and industry professionals keeps us up-to-date with changing requirements, emerging challenges, and the practical realities of busy work environments. As a company that values innovation, this is key in helping us develop solutions that meet the needs of the industry. CleanEx is one of the few occasions where so many people from our industry gather in the same place. Alongside the exhibition itself, the networking dinner provided an opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, meet new contacts, and spend time with the customers and suppliers who continue to shape the sector. The value of CleanEx has always been the people behind it. Having the chance to listen, learn, and engage directly with customers and peers remains every bit as important as the products and technology on display. A big thank you to everyone who visited the JFC Trolleys stand during CleanEx 2026. We look forward to seeing you again at the next event.
